Krungthep Turakij, one of Thailand's leading business publications, has featured ReGen Capital Partners in a piece on the succession challenge facing Thai SMEs.

Thailand has between 3 and 3.5 million SMEs. Together they generate more than 40% of national GDP. Over 600,000 of these companies were founded by Baby Boomer entrepreneurs who are now approaching retirement.
Each year, an estimated 10,000 to 20,000 SMEs are at risk of closing. In most cases the reason is not weak demand or poor profitability. It is that there is no one to take over.
When a healthy business closes, the loss extends well beyond the founding family. Jobs disappear, supplier networks break, and the country loses productive capacity it took decades to build.
Why the capital markets do not solve it
Large companies can list on the stock exchange. Many mid-sized Thai SMEs sit in an awkward middle ground: too small to IPO, too valuable to simply wind down.
Conventional investors often view these businesses as high risk because they depend heavily on the founder, lack formal management systems, and have no transition plan in place. That is the gap ReGen was built to fill.
The search fund model
Rather than spreading capital across dozens of holdings, ReGen invests in a single company. The THB 1,000M fund is designed to find one business, acquire a majority stake, and commit the full team to operating it.
Our founder, Matt Windsor, described the core of the model to Krungthep Turakij: ReGen buys the business and then runs it. This differs from traditional private equity, where the original owner is usually expected to stay on. Our approach allows a founder to genuinely retire while the business continues to move forward.
The name reflects the intent. ReGen comes from Rebirth and Generation: renewing an established business and passing it to the next generation.
What we look for
ReGen is not searching for turnarounds. We look for businesses that already work:
Annual revenue between THB 100M and THB 2,000M
EBITDA of THB 30M or above
Majority ownership, at least 50%
A strong customer base and steady cash generation
Sectors including food, consumer goods, healthcare and clinics, pharmaceutical manufacturing, recurring-revenue B2B services, and software across HR, CRM and cybersecurity
Advice for owners preparing to transition
For founders thinking about a sale or a partner, Matt highlighted three things that determine whether a business is investable.
First, transparent accounting. The era of two sets of books is ending, because institutional investors cannot commit capital to figures they are unable to verify.
Second, proper data. Modern businesses need to make decisions on evidence rather than instinct.
Third, outside advisors or a board. External perspective reduces risk and strengthens credibility when it comes time to negotiate.
Looking ahead
Succession will be one of the defining economic questions for Thailand in the coming decade. With the right model connecting founding owners to a new generation of operators, it can become a beginning rather than an ending.
